Weekend deals

Day 170

I was at Michael's on Friday during my break and I saw the high heeled scotch tape dispenser in black and I knew I had to have it. However, Michael's is severely overpriced (why do you think they can afford to have a 40% off coupon every week?) Anyway, Michael's was selling these for 22$ which is ridiculous (even with 40% off) - I mean come on, its a scotch tape dispenser!!! I figured I was willing to spend 10$ TOPS for this (regular scotch tape dispensers are between 5-8$). So I hit the interwebs to see if I could get a better deal elsewhere: Amazon.ca, Staples, London Drugs, Walmart?!?! I found that Walmart had the best deal (according to their website, they are retailing for 9.99$) so my plan was to hit up with Walmart in PoCo on Sunday (yesterday) because I was going to be in PoCo to visit my family. Also, after doing more research, I found a blue stiletto scotch tape dispenser I preferred. Anyway, Bobby and I didn't end up going to Walmart, but we did hit up the Target and there I found the one I wanted on clearance for 8$!! Big score!! Happy dance all around!! Also, I got a garbage bin for 89 cents!!!

I am excited for future tape requiring projects

Also, I've been dying for a Gourmet Built lunch bag. They are super durable and awesome looking. They retail for 20$ at London Drugs, and other stores in the area I've checked out... Yesterday, they FINALLY went on sale (15$) so I am FINALLY the happy owner of one!!

Anyway, signing off on this blog of nonsense! Only I could get excited about a fancy scotch tape dispenser ;)

Chaos, mom of the century!!

Day 169
My Cakey-Cakes wins the mom of the century award for putting up with Kiwi the Terrible. Hedgehogs are territorial but because these two have lived together for Kiwi's entire existence, I guess Chaos just got used to/put up with the situation. Chaos happily sleeps in the tiny hut while Kiwi gets the giant one. Kiwi, on the other hand, is a horrible hedgie. I find her biting her mom (not enough to draw blood). She's like an emo teen going through her "I hate you/no one understands me phase".
Lately though, Chaos and Kiwi have been inseparable, sleeping beside each other, which always makes me smile. This morning I found them sleeping together in Kiwi's hut.  I gave them both a treat and put them back in their own huts. Five minutes later,  I find Kiwi sandwiched next to Chaos... and Chaos just puts up with it!!! Thank you for being a good momma, Chaos!!

Of all the tables at the bar...

Day 166

Bobby and I hit up Wings for dinner and when we got there around 6, it was pretty empty... yet I got stuck with one facing a broken TV!! The good thing is that football (NFL) was playing so I didn't care so much :)

For those extra large family get togethers!

Day 165

I hit up the Winners/Home Sense on Cambie today during my lunch break and I spotted this:

Super giant pot!
I put the much smaller pot on the right next to it for comparison. The giant pot can be yours for only 200$ but hurry!! There's only one left! I thought it was really funny that they put a security alarm thing on the pot.. The damn thing is so large, there is no way you can steal it without looking really obvious!!!

When I got back to the office, my co-worker gave me this cute little flower thing. Yay! A plant I won't kill!

Tuesday, 24 September 2013

You know you have been doing too much online shopping when...

Day 164

... you come home to two notices to pick up your packages waiting for you AND a package that managed to fit in your tiny mail box!!!

Monday, 23 September 2013

Round trip airfare for my package!

Day 163

So it turns out that the clothes I bought for my niece online at Gap did in fact enjoy a round trip in Canada.

What a waste of time, money, resources!!

Fall!!

Day 162

On this fall day, I headed back to the mall to pick up some tights (a necessity in Vancouver!) It was raining a little bit and I took the bus to Pacific Centre. When I left my apartment, it was only drizzling.

My plan was to take the bus to the mall (to avoid having to pay for parking since I have a bus pass!) to pick up some tights and do some shopping, then head back to the apartment, take Bobby's car and go grocery shopping. When I finally got to the mall it was pretty much pouring rain - gigantic rain drops and all.

I picked up the few things I needed and decided to be a true carless downtown Vancouverite by buying my groceries in downtown (I hit up the IGA on Robson) and then bus back with my groceries. Big mistake. But somehow.. I survived!

Its almost bedtime and I'm just checking up on my Kiwi... She was bleeding AGAIN today! A month or so ago, she had a cut on the bridge of her nose. Today she had a really small cut (so small it was like a dot) on her cheek. I don't know what my feisty little terror gets up to these days but she needs to calm down!!!!

Kiwi, unfocused
Chaos, my cutie

Saturday afternoon pumpkin peel facial, etc

Day 161 (a day late!)

I went for a facial yesterday at Luxe Beauty in Yaletown. Honestly, I wasn't very impressed. It was an organic Emminence (or whatever) facial and some of the moisturizers were supposed to be "tingly". My skin is not overly sensitive, but when I woke up today, I noticed that I had some redness on my face, no doubt due to the facial... Oh well.

Sadly, I don't have a pic for today (or yesterday) because the one pic I took yesterday looks horrible. Haha.

PS: We went to the mall after my facial and The Bay's men's floor barista was serving lattes with a shot of amaretto. So yummy!!!

Dear Canada Post

Day 160

WTF! How did my package go from Mississauga to Richmond to Vancouver... and back to Mississauga?!?!

Thursday, 19 September 2013

Merry Chrismas, Bobby! (In 3 months and 6 days!)

Day 159 part 2

Since we are going to be in New York this holiday season, I decided to buy Bobby some muggs (male uggs/motorcycle boot uggs). He really wanted to buy himself a pair last year, but they are so expensive! He got the Ugg Rockville II in the colour dune. In Vancouver, these boots retail for 275$ plus 12% tax. 300$ for boots just isn't worth it!! I wanted to buy them for his for Christmas this year so that he could have a pair of warm winter boots for NYC but I did not want to pay 300$ either. We initially planned to just head down to Portland one long weekend and buy them there (250$ tax free!) but then we found them on ebay for 150$!!! Brand new!! And only 20$ for shipping!! Honestly, ebay is the best place to shop for uggs. I got mine there for only 150$ also a couple of years ago! Anyway, so we ordered these uggs not even two weeks ago and now Bobby is the happy owner of a pair of sweet motorcycle boots!

The 80s called, they want their book back!

Day 159

Exactly one month ago today, I started this new position. Today, I finally took the time to clean out/organize my personal filing cabinet. And that it when I found this gem:

"Working with video display terminals" the 1981 edition. They seriously must've made this book when computers first came out.

This book is older than me!
Even the pictures are very 70s/80s!!!
I don't know WHY this book existed in my desk. The girl who worked this position before me is not that much older than me so this book is definitely not hers... I'm not sure who this book belongs to.. Maybe it came with the desk... From when it was first built :)

I love Sales!

Day 158

Last week, I got the memo about The Bay's Friend's and Family sale starting today. As mentioned in a previous post, I wanted to get a tote bag for work so that I could put everything in it (lunch, umbrella, etc, on top of wallet, cell phone, keys...) since I don't want to put my lunch or an umbrella in my Marc Jacobs bag and I hate having to carry an extra bag just for my lunch.

I decided to get a Kipling bag because I am not hipster enough to buy a Herschel bag and I did not want to become "the girl with a longchamp le pliage bag" like all the other "girls with longchamp le pliage bags". Plus, the Kipling one is waterproof (a must in Raincouver!!!). I got the bag in the colour Caffe Latte. I really wanted it in a brighter colour (red or pink), however, The Bay only sold it in the colour I got, black or dark brown. If I wanted it in red, I would have to buy it online and pay extra for shipping and possibly import fees and duties.

Kipling Adara in Caffe Latte. Regularly 99.00$ at the Bay. I got it at 20% off
In other news, looks like Kiwi and Chaos are no longer BFFS as they are sleeping in separate huts again... In an interesting turn of events, though, Chaos is now occupying the big hut and Kiwi the little hut... Let's see how long this rooming situation lasts for ;)

Kay-Kay in the big hut

Present for Bobby!

Day 157 (a day late!)

So last night, Bobby had his branch review at work (stressful times) and then he had school after so he had a super long day. I told him I would buy him a tiramisu cupcake from Whole Foods as a treat after his long day. I went to the Whole Foods on Cambie on my lunch break and they didn't have the tiramisu cupcake. So, Bobby got a jar of nutella instead :)

Kiwi and Chaos, BFFs again!

Day 156

Last night, I found Kiwi and Chaos shoe-horned into Chaos's tiny hut together.

Kiwi's bulbous butt!
Today, I found them both snuggling in Kiwi's hut (which is much larger). Awwwwwwws <3<3<3

I spy with my little eye: two little hedgies snuggling!!!

The end of another weekend

Day 155

Got caught in the rain today!! Ugh Vancouver!! Bobby and I went to Pacific Centre. I had to return something and I am in the market for a tote bag. So I hit up Aritzia, Holt Renfrew and The Bay to see my options. I found the one I am going to buy. I didn't buy it today because The Bay is having their Friends and Family Sale Wednesday and Thursday so everything will be 10-20% off then :)

At home now... doing laundry/re-watching American Horror Story season 1. I can't wait until season 3 starts! Had crepes for dinner... Here's my oddly shaped crepe:

Aren't crepes supposed to be roundish?

Presents for a future one year old!

Day 154

Bobby and I hit up Toys R Us to buy Luca presents for his first birthday next month. Yes, I am exactly one month early, however, who doesn't love a trip to Toys R Us? Also, I wasn't sure what kind of building blocks the store on Broadway had in stock for one year old so I thought I might have to buy them online... and shipping in Canada takes forever sometimes! So I had to give myself plenty of time!

Anyway, Ja approved duplo as a present, however, most duplo sets are for ages two and up since there are some small choking hazard pieces in most sets so we settled for two Mega Block sets.

I can't wait to give Luca his presents!

TGIF!

Day 153

Went out for dinner after work today. We hit up Two Parrots on Granville. It's a divey-like bar with pretty good food and good drinks as well. Best part is that even though its in downtown, its not pretentious :)

Looking forward to a sun filled, relaxing weekend!

PS: Happy Friday the 13th!!

Thursday, 12 September 2013

Morning mix-up, etc

Day 152

I woke up today with a really bad head ache... all because I forgot to eat dinner last night. Yes, I am an adult and I forgot to eat dinner. Dear self, always eat all three meals!!! Anyway, so I felt horrible this morning. I managed to make it through showering/getting ready for work... and I managed to make it to work. But I stopped at Starbucks on the way to work for some sugar since I was obviously starving. I got an apple fritter and decided to get a coffee as well. I ordered a tall, half sweet, non whip white mocha. For whatever reason, the barrista made me a tall vanilla white mocha with whip cream. Before she gave me my drink, she was like, oops, I made it wrong. I'll make you another one right away!! So I was thinking, oh okay, yea because I didn't ask for vanilla? And I asked for a half sweet drink? And no whip cream?!?! But then she made the EXACT SAME DRINK only without whip cream!! Crazy lady. Anyway, I didn't have time to wait for ANOTHER drink, plus I didn't want her to be so wasteful since the wrong drinks likely just get thrown out... so I just took the SUPER sweet drink :/

One super sugary drink!
Anyway, so I got to work and my supervisor wanted to meet with me to check in to see how things are going. I've been at my new job for about 3 weeks now...? So, I was kind of nervous and also kind of nauseous from my headache... BUT he just wanted to let me know that things with me have been going great and that my co-workers have had really positive things to say about me :) YAY ME!!!!

Later on, one of my co-workers asked me if I wanted to go out for lunch with her. Even though I brought my lunch, I figured, why not? Turns out she wanted to treat me as a welcome to the department present!!

My head ache finally went away after lunch (after two more tylenols). So this day that started off so horribly ended off really great!! YAY!!!

No I'm sitting home, relaxing AFTER eating my dinner ;) watching some tv and playing with my Kiwi-Keys and Kay-Kay

There's a hole in my patio!

Day 151

The building manager came into my apartment today to inspect the patio/roof and so I came home to this today. Things will be back to order tomorrow!

All in all a good day today! It was sunny and very hot. Seriously its like Van city is getting a second summer :). I had lunch with my mom and brother. Then Bobby came to get me after work so that I could pick up a package I had delivered to the Puralotor which is located on the other side of downtown from where I live. Sooo I picked up my package which is this super awesome dress I got from roxy.com on clearance for only 18$!! Love this dress :)

Day 150
Not much going on today: heres my Kiwi-Keys

Lego spice rack, complete

Day 149, a day late!

We actually completed this project over a month ago but I realised I never posted a pic of the final product. I still am on the hunt to buy spice jars with red lids, or lids that can be painted red, but for now, this project is complete! I can cross "build something/do woodwork" off my bucket list :)

Sunday, 8 September 2013

New kicks!

Day 148
Hit up west 4th avenue today so that Bobby could pick up coffee grounds at Parallel 49th. Of course we stayed for lattes and donuts too! Such a yummy treat :)
We hit up Foot Locker on 4th as well so I could pick up some new runners! I got them in the kid section, still a ladies size 6.5 but cheaper and only one tax! #win

Saturday, 7 September 2013

Brunch, etc

Day 147

Ambitiously woke up super early (for a Saturday) to have brunch at Medina Cafe. Last time I planned to go there with Ja and Aleks, we got there around 11 and the wait was wayyy too long! So today we got there around 9am and we got seated right away. The food was amazing! I got the fricasse (braised short ribs with potato, veggies and eggs) and it was soooo good. Super filling too! Bobby and I also split a waffle with salted caramel sauce and it was soooo yummy!!! Next time, I'm going just for waffles ;). Anyway, got to see Luca too. I see him once a month but each time I see him, I'm blown away with how big he has gotten and his super cute personality!

Bobby and I hit up Costco after and then we went home and chilled. We hit up Robson street early evening and I finally hit up the new Victoria's Secret in downtown which opened a couple of weeks ago. The store is huuuuge. Plenty of man seats for the bfs and husbands ;).

Hit up Caffe Artigiano for some java and picked up some lip balm at Kiehl's and leggings at Aritzia. All and all a fantastically relaxing Saturday :)

18 months of cuteness overload!

Day 146
Exactly 18 months today, this hedgehog began terrorizing all that came in her way.

Lincoln Park After Dark

Day 145, part two

OPI's lincoln park after dark is seriously my fave nail polish colour ever! It looks black but its actually a deep purple. Anyway, it was thunder showers earlier today. Fall is quickly approaching so I felt it is time to put away the bright neon and coral polishes and switch to dark dramatic coloured polishes!

In loving memory

Day 145

Ten years ago today, I lost one of my best friends. Being 19 years old at the time, I experienced the tragedy of losing someone so close to you for the first time. The previous year, my paternal grandmother passed away. My grandmother lived in the Philippines so I was not close with her. Still, I was sad for my family's loss. At the same time, I understood that she was old and that it was her time to go... My friend was 19 years old and he died in a car accident. The pain of losing someone overnight, in the worst way possible, is a different kind of pain, one I would never wish on someone.

Sky, I miss you. I wish you were still here so that we could all celebrate your 30th birthday tomorrow together.

Wednesday, 4 September 2013

It's day time, all the time!

Day 144

For the past two years, Yaletown's tallest building was being constructed in front of my building. Last night, I noticed that in the town house/common area (the part of the building that is only a few stories tall) has obscenely offensive bright lights on! Super bright white lights! I don't even know WHY such bright lights are necessary. I thought, surely they must be for constructions' sake and they must have left it on by accident? Well the lights are on AGAIN tonight. It's not too much troublesome for me because the lights are mainly annoying when I am sitting in the living room, so really, I could just close the blinds... however, they must be super annoying for the people one or two floors above me who have this light shining directly in their bedrooms!

Tuesday, 3 September 2013

From one desk to another...

Day 143

Over the weekend, Bobby noticed that the pic of us I had on my desk at home is missing. That's because it has found a new home on my desk at work. My printer is out of yellow ink so I haven't been able to print other pics!

Where the pic now lives :)

Blurred lines

Day 142

First blog on my new laptop!

So apparently, mascara goes bad... and when it does, this happens to the wand/applicator part:

Anyway, this pic does not really show how most of the bristles on one side of the brush are completely gone!

Hope everyone had a relaxing and safe labour day weekend :)

Sunday dim sum

Day 141

Had dim sum with my family at Floata in Chinatown. We then walked around Gastown for a bit. We hit up a coffee shop next to Peckinpah and we ended up getting a free Americano because they ended up making too many drinks. We then walked towards the Convention Centre before taking the skytrain back to Chinatown to pick up our cars.

After we all parted ways, Bobby and I went to Bestbuy so that I could buy a new laptop to replace my almost 5 year old/completely outdated MacBook. I finally took the plunge and bought a decent one for less than $600.00. Yay!
