Halloween convention

So today was Vancouver's (first annual?) Halloween Convention at the Sheraton Wall Centre in downtown. I bought us a couple of tickets on Groupon (2 tickets for 20$) - normally the tickets are 30$ each, so we saved a lot of money... But I think we are going to skip buying tickets next year, and just participate in the festivities outside! The indoor event itself was not too exciting, it was a lot of booths set up selling stuff. I don't know about you, but when you are already IN costume, why the heck would you need to buy MORE wigs, or masks, etc? And, since you are in costume, that likely means that you don't want to hold anything that you just recently purchased! But I digress, so, let's just recap the days events in pictures:

We left home around 10:45am and traffic in downtown was BRUTAL since the event also included a parade, so lots of road closures. We made it to the Sheraton and just parked at the hotel (parking was 17$ for 3.5 hours!!!) and hit up the indoor event. We hung out for like 5 minutes. Everyone wanted a pic with Bobby. The room was pretty small so we decided to go outside and check out the parade.

Bobby was a huuuuuge hit. Everyone wanted a picture of him, and with him! So everywhere we went we were our own party.

Spiderman and Dr. Octopus meet again.. This time in the heart of downtown (Nelson and Howe)
The parade went from east on Davie, then north on Granville, then west on Smithe and south on Howe. I think it circled a few times over a few hours. We hung out on Howe first (a little less busy), then ventured out to Granville (super busy!!)
Everywhere, and I mean EVERYWHERE, we went, someone wanted a picture. Each block we had to stop for at least 15-20 minutes while everyone got a picture of/with Bobby.

Super cute Spiderman and Superman!!!
After the parade was finished, we walked over to the Starbucks on Davie and Seymour. Bobby got hounded by more people wanting pics. I snuck inside and got us some coffee and food. Starbucks was packed so we sat at the park just next to it to eat and relax and wait for my brother to come meet us.

Caffeine break!
Even at the park, people were coming up to Bobby for pictures. One kid stopped by to chat. He and Bobby had a conversation for about 5 minutes. It was really cute, because after a while, the kid was like "I'm Sebastian by the way". Lol, so grown up and proper with the introduction. After a while, the kid left to go play, but on his way home, he stopped by again and said "Bye Bobby!!" Haha, so adorable.

So my brother and his gf and the dog came to meet up with us. We walked on the Seawall:

It was actually really warm today (20 degrees) so we were starting to get hot from all the walking (especially Bobby since he had to carry an extra 4 arms and wear a heavy coat and gloves and a hat!). We we went back to the Sheraton Wall Centre and the party was going strong since the parade was over. So again, Bobby got hounded by EVERYONE:

Breaking news: newspaper is Dr. Octopus's kryptonite?
So Bobby was really friendly, always stopping to take pictures with everyone. Especially little kids in cute costumes.

There was only one other person Bobby wanted to take a picture with, the Piranha from Super Mario. However, every time we tried to get to this guy, Bobby would get swarmed for pictures.... However, after 30 minutes or so, Mr. Piranha man made it to us because he wanted a picture with Bobby!!

After a very long time of pictures, we sat down at the bar for drinks. Even Dr. O gets thirsty after all!

All in all, we had a great time today! The kids were so adorable! And lots of people put lots of effort into their costumes!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Day 201 a day late!

Yesterday was a day filled with candy and costumes!

My work was having a Halloween potluck. A few people dressed up. I wore a frilly dress with red tights and a red masquerade mask... some of my coworkers went all out though! We even had our very own rag doll. She was kinda creepy looking (dolls are creepy) but hands down, I think she won the best costume award ;). For lunch, a few coworkers transformed our kitchen into Halloween mode.. and people brought in food to share... so I had pizza, the best pulled pork tacos, cheese and crackers and veggies and dip. SO YUMMY!!!

I got off work at 5 and Bobby came and got me for round two of Halloween fun!

The plan was to go to Bobby's coworker Patricks' house to hand out candy while he and his wife took their two kids (and their friends!) out trick or treating. They live in this super awesome gigantic complex which was so perfect for trick or treating! We handed out candy for an hour and a half or so... lots of kids came by!! Saw lots of costumes.. oh yea, people were pretty impressed with our Portal costumes (mainly the guns). I was pretty impressed that a lot of kids knew the video game since Portal is actually a strategy game where you have to solve puzzles in order to move on in the game (laymen's terms: the game can be pretty hard). Our first fan was a kid who looked like he was 5 or 6 years old. His jaw literally dropped when he saw the guns. We ran into him AGAIN and his jaw dropped... AGAIN. Super cute!!!

Bobby had fun scaring the kids with his portal gun
We left Patrick's house, around 8:15 (our parking was expiring... damn you non free parking Vancouver!). We got home around 8:30 and we chilled for a bit. I put Kiwi and Chaos in their costumes and it was their turn for treats!

My pretty in pink and purple ballerinas enjoying cat treats!!!
We headed out again around 9:30 to a bar on Granville for adult Halloween fun. I was pretty exhausted by this time. We went to a lower key bar and had a few drinks and wings...

All in all, super great fun! Looks like Halloween 2013 was a great success! Huge thank you to Patrick, Jenn and their kids for letting us overtake their domain ;) Only 364 days left for Bobby to complete his 2014 Halloween costume masterpieces!

Trick or treat

Day 190

Sadly, I am too old to trick or treat, but that doesn't mean I can't buy Halloween candy for my own personal consumption ;)

I picked up this box for Bobby and me at Save On today. Here's hoping it lasts until Halloween!

Ghosts of Halloweens Past

Day 171

I finally got back into scrapbooking. Scrapbooking is quite expensive because 1) the supplies are expensive (the scrapbooking paper, stickers, glue gun refills, etc) and 2) printing pictures one by one is also expensive since printer ink is not cheap! When I was in Michael's on Friday, they had some Halloween stickers on clearance (starting at 90 cents a package) and I wanted to buy them but I didn't know what I would use them for. I don't know any children who would appreciate them. This weekend, I regretted not buying them because I realized I could use them for scrapbooking previous Halloween costumes!!

Bobby loves Halloween because he is extremely creative and handy - he makes a large part of his Halloween costume every year (and he carves our pumpkins every year as well). Our first Halloween together, he dressed as a Minotaur and I was Belle (kind of like Beauty and the Beast). Our second Halloween together, he went Steam Punk and I was a bumble bee. Last year, he went as an elevator and I went as Pocahontas.

I went back to Michael's today and bought some stickers and I am finally scrapbooking previous costumes. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of Bobby and I together last year. Can't wait to see how Halloween this year turns out!
